Explorer doesn't display Network Printers on Windows 8/2012 with third party provider

Hi Everyone,

We have an issue with Network Printers on Windows 8/2012. When we install network printers on Windows 8 machine, where we use our own print provider, the Devices and Printers UI doesn't list network printer.

We have observed that it is listed in apps (for ex: notepad, Ms-Word...etc). We contacted Microsoft on this issue and found that we need to register the PrintingQueue DevNode to get necessary entries to be created in registry. This should be implemented as part of our provider.

Can anyone help me on how to implement registering the PrintingQueue DevNode as part of a provider? Sharing some samples (WDK/SDK) would greatly help us.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
Kamal

Hi all,

I seem to be getting the below error while importing printers from a file in windows server 2008R2SP1.

While restoring a print queue from backup, Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to copy print processor file C:\Users\RANDY~1.COB\AppData\Local\Temp\99B5DAD2-B483-4529-92C5-47C7594A837C\PRTPROCS\Windows x64\winprint.dll to C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRTPROCS\x64\winprint.dll. Error 0x5. Access is denied.
. This can occur if Printbrm.exe cannot locate all files for a print queue, or if the Print Spooler service cannot be stopped during installation of the print processor. If printing fails, manually install the print processor on the destination computer.

I have checked the printer export files against other servers and its working.
I can also add printers manually.

The error alludes to a securioty permissions error which i have check and confirmed that i have access to the both folders.
Im running the import as a Domain Admin.
I have also tried to add the printers in power shell. I get the following errors.

Please excuse the lenght of the but theres quite a few printers.

PS C:\Windows\system32\spool\tools> .\PrintBrm.exe -s localhost -r -f C:\finacleprinters862011.printerExport
Operation mode: restore
Target server: localhost
Target file path: C:\finacleprinters862011.printerExport.
Queue publish mode: none
Overwrite mode: keep existing settings
Queue ACL mode: restore ACLs from backup

Can not install ANY x64 or x86 drivers to multiple Win2008 servers

I know this seems like a redundant question but I have tried almost every method out there for installing either x64 or x86 drivers to two of my 2008 x64 servers and no matter what I try or weather I install from the Win7 client or XP client I cant install a singe HP or Minolta driver without an 0x00000007 or 0x00000057 error.

Someone please help me!!!

Mapping a 2008R2 Print Server

Hello all,

I want to know if there is a way to map the print server as you would map a network share.  Our employees navigate to the old print server by browsing to\\oldprintserver and right clicking and connecting to the printer that they need.  Is there a way to map this so is show up under My Computer as a network share?  so instead of having to manually type in\\oldprintserver into windows explorer or the search box in the start menu, It simply shows up under network locations as a mapped drive named "printers" or something similar.  I do not like list in directory because for some reason the printers are showing up listed under their driver name instead of the printer name so no one would know what printer was what.  If there is a way to change that let me know as well.  Thank you in advance!

Changing a printer and printer driver for an existing print queue?

Hello,

We are changing our printers to a new manufacturer. Do  i get problems if i just use the button change driver in the printer settings?

Or should we use always new print queues for the new printers?

Bye

The problem occurs when I print using remote access printing.. I selected both and hit the print key but only one document printed, and the other one disappeared from the screen

Hi

The problem occurs when I print using remote access printing.I have just sent two documents to print.  When I logged in using my ID pass, the two documents were showing on screen.  I selected both and hit the print key – but only one document printed, and the other one disappeared from the screen. we use remote access printing, ie, we use our ID card to swipe onto any printer (using print from Windows 7)

change print queue in 2008 domain

0
0

Hi there,

We have a 2008 domain and the C-drive is running out of space due to spool queues filling up. I decided to change the location of the queues from C to D-drive. I stopped the spooler service and the TCP/IP print service, but the location can still not be changed in server properties. The location is greyed out.

The queues are on the domain controller.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Martien

server 2008 R2 error while exporting printers

currently in the process of updating to server 2008 R2 and want to copy printers from one server2008 R2  server to another. tried using print management utility but utility fails at end of export with error

The following error occurred: 0x80004005.
Unspecified error

Check the eventlog

Eventlog Description:
Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to place a file in cabinet (CAB) file myfilenae.printerExport while backing up print queues. Error reported: 0x80004005. Unspecified error. This can occur if the user does not have permission to create a file in the destination location, or if there is insufficient disk space or system resources. for detailed information about the error which occurred.

from what I have read and found on forums this is due to the size of the CAB limitation of the printerexport file of 2gigs, my spooler folder size is 3.9 gigs in size. I need to be able to back up 540 printers from server2008 R2 print server and import to a newly imaged sever2008 R2 print server is there a way to backup/export  this large amount of printers and import or restore to the new server. the source server has both x64 and x32 support for installed printers. Is there a way to select a partial backup/export  and restore and possibly do the transfer in segments to transfer the printers and drivers to the new print server.

Have Windows7 64 Professional, USB printers, and I need to print a directory listing. Won't work from the command prompt, and can't figure out how to do it thru windows.  I just need the file names, hopefully in a sort order.

WDS: Boot image not loading newtork driver

0

Hello,

I know there are quite a few posts like this ... but since it is urgent I want to ask anyway.

I need do deploy 20 someth. machines with a quite new intel i350-t2 server adapter with win7 via WDS. I installed one machine manually - all fine.

The problem: The network driver I injected in the boot.wim does not load; the install procedure fails. Manual loading it works fine: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923834 however.

I also tried this - but WDS refuses do add the driver; DISM installs it fine I think - a probe with /Get-Drivers lists it.

Is there a way to just "continue" or restart the process described in KB923834 form command line?

Or better - how do I debug the process and does anyone have tip where to find the root of the problem?

This article is doing fine:

Thanks in advance

Printmanagement - Paper Tracking with Windows Server 2008 R2

We would like to have an opportunity to see how many site a user is printing.

Is there a possibility to do this with standard tools of Windows Server 2008 R2 or do we have to use a 3rd-party-software?

The entries are in the event log, but it is very unfortunately to create a reporting with this information.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Error when using "rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry"

0
0

Hi,

On my Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server I use a logonscript to connect printers. Here is a part of my logonscript:

    rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /in /n\\Printserver\Printer

When I log in for the first time the printer is created in my profile. But on the second logon I get the following error:

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. No printers were found."

If I remove the printer and login again I don't get the error message. But after a second logon I again get it.

So it seems that the script doesn't like it if the printer is already connected. Before I had a Windows Server 2008 32bit Remote Desktop server and the script worked there. Is there anything I have to change with W2K8R2?

br, Patrick

Printer defaults not propogating down to clients

0

I've set up a copy of server 08 r2 as a print server for my organization. It is currently managing the print jobs for 5 printers, all Ricoh/Lanier. When I set up printer defaults like two-sided black and white the defaults do not show up on the print properties page for clients. I've replaced the driver by Ricoh/Laniers recommendation but the settings still do not apply to the clients. Any thoughts on how to force the settings out to desktop clients?

Fax Outbox and Sent Box; Allow viewing of other / all user's faxes in 2008 Server

0
0
It appears that one can no longer globally view all user's faxes. In 2003, if one gave the everyone group sufficient rights in the Fax Services Manager -> Fax (Local) properties, any user could see all other user's sent faxes and outbox. Thus was able to tell the global status of all faxes. Even without this setting any Administrator could see Every fax in any box.

We have tried many things in 2008, but:
We can only view faxes for the account that we are logged in as, even as Administrator or a Domain Admin.

Is there any way to capture a global view of the fax boxes? It seems odd that even an Admin cannot get a global picture of the faxes. How would you know that user X has a large fax that is transmitting and that is why your fax is not going? How would an Admin be able to check the status of other people's faxes, i.e. retries exceeded, line unavailable, etc.?

Clearly you can dig through the activity log, but that sucks compared to clicking on sent items or outbox and seeing everything in one GUI like 2003.

Any suggestions or at least confirmation that this is the intended design? hopefully there is something that can be done or perhaps an activity log browser app of some form to recreate the flexibilty and usability of 2003?

thanks.

Creating a new printer server using Windows Server 2012.  Everything is working out fine so far, however I just ran into one problem that didn't happen in our Server 2008R2 print server.

When looking at print jobs that have completed under:  event logs --> Microsoft --> Windows --> PrintService --Operational, I have noticed that Event ID 307 is not displaying the printed document's name in Server 2012 (it did for Server 2008R2).  In Server 2012, the document name simply displays as "Print Document" instead of displaying the document's name.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the document's name to properly display in the event logs?

Thanks for any help.

looking for Windows Picture and Fax Viewer "Full Page Fax Print" layout in Windows Server 2008 (32 bit) or some 3rd party software

Is there any way I can obtain the capability of Windows Picture and Fax Viewer "Full Page Fax Print" layout in Windows Server 2008 (32 bit) or some 3rd party software?  That layout, when used to print to the "Adobe PDF" virtual printer, quickly converts document images into Adobe PDF files.   Printing from other image programs adds undesireable anti-aliasing and considerable size to the converted documents.   With Windows Picture and Fax Viewer I can stitch at least 20 converted PDF documents and keep the file size under 4M.  The same composite document with anti-aliasing is over 15M.  The iscreased size scales up very quickly as I create 100s of these documents each week.

Using remote printer with remote drivers?

I wonder if this can be done:

PC1: Win7 64-bit.

PC2: 2003 Server 32-bit with an old USB-printer with drivers that does NOT support 64-bit whatsoever.

I want to print from PC1 to that old printer which is connected to PC2, but the printer-drivers cannot be installed on PC1 due to the lack of 64-bit support, so ordinary printer-sharing cannot be used.

How can I trick PC2 to do the job with it's own drivers?

I don't find a solution for this. I have a computer with windows xp on a domain network. to that computer i have a shared printer.

After a while, i can not connect to that computer. I have the same user connected to that computer every time when i checked opened sessions. After i typed in command prompt "net session /delete",  it delete all session but after a few second the same users appears with an open session.

I've limited max user from 10 to 8, and the time to end session to 3.

I've found that icp$ share have 10 connection not the printer. what can i do to delete the cached computers from that shares?

printer installation problem

We had installed Hp laser jet 1020 printer on Win XP Pro sp3 32bit and shared it. We are able to print from all XP clients but unable to print from windows7 Pro 32bit which we installed by using Add printer - local printer attached to this computer - Create new port - Local port - \\computername\printersharename after that win7 users able to print for sometime but after sometime same thing happens unable to print.

Then we tried to install printer through other ways. For example - 1)Add printer - A network printer or printer attached to another computer - find a printer in the directory   2) Add printer -  A network printer or printer attached to another computer - Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer....) - selecting that printer.. 3) Using unc path Start - Run - \\computername or ip add - it shows the shared printer then right click and connect.   But failed to install a printer showing error that "Print processor does not exist".

Please provide guidance on this issue.
