Terminal services printer - Printer settings could not be saved

Hi!  I have a W2008 R2 server running terminal services.  I also have a 2012 server running as a print server.  I added a new printer to the 2012 server and it works fine.  I can print a test page from there and it's all good.

This printer needs to be accessed from the terminal server.  So I used this to add the printer for all users:

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\MyPrintServer\printer1

The printer appears in Devices and Printers on the TS.  It indicates it's online.  However I can't do a thing with it.  No matter what I try and change when hitting OK I get:

"Printer settings could not be saved.  Double check the printer name and make sure the printer is connected to the network".

It's connected, according to the print server and the terminal server.  If I try to print a test page I get:

"Test page failed to print.  Would you like the view the print troubleshooter for assistance?  The server print spooler service is not running.  Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine"

Sigh, the print spooler IS running.  I restarted it, no change.  If I click Yes to run the troubleshooter it says (of course),  "An error occurred while troubleshooting.  And unexpected error occurred 0x80070057"

Why is this printer such a complete train wreck?  It won't let me do a thing with it, yet its status says it's connected and happy.

Thanks!
