Print Server not accessible

we have got an existing print server running on windows 2008 by the name printserver1. In regards to a latest server consolidation project I have to consolidate few servers (including this one) into 2 servers. I built a new server running 2008 called newserver , on this server there is 1 single NIC card which carries an ip address. Now, what I have done is :

a) disconnected printserver1 from the network

b) assigned the ip address of printserver1 to new server (Server2) on the same NIC card (ip aliasing). Now the single card carries 2 ip addresses.

c) In order to ensure all the users (all running windows 7) faces no problem, I removed the A record of printserver1 from DNS and created a CNAME in the following manner:

printserver1 CNAME newserver.FQDN

Now, I am facing 2 problems:

a) When I try to browse to \\printserver1 , I get the below error. If I try\\newserver , I get no error and it shows me the
printers.

b) From newserver I went onto print management and tried to take a test print from few printers but it came up with error. Same happened when I mapped a printer using\\newserver , I still got print error.

I do not understand this, as I am using the same ip address hence network firewall is not coming into picture. I have also migrated the printers from old to new server. What exactly is going wrong ??????
