Hi, I must raise today one thing, that bothered me so indeed since years is striking, so far but never practically. Today is very distracting in a configuration issue and I absolutely need to clear.
Following is happens in a scenario (virtually the effect in other cases with W2012 R2 and W8/W10 occurs example -): AD domain with Windows 2012 R2 server, Windows 8/10 client, the domain is called: local.contoso.com in the domain exists a print server named "PRINT-SRV". on this, a printer (Printer1) is set up and shared with display in the AD.
On the client is the now manually added (printer management - network printer add printer, printer will be searched and found). In the search results window is so inside the printer: "Printer1 on PRINT-SRV". Printer now will be selected and added to.
After adding the printer in devices and printers will appear: Printer1 on PRINT-SRV as far as everything is OK. Unfortunately, the above behavior not on each client is so. So the following happens on client (order same as above):
On the client is the now manually added (printer management - network printer add printer, printer will be searched and found). In the search results window is so inside the printer: "Printer1 on PRINT-SRV". Printer is selected and added to.
After adding the printer in devices and printers will appear: "Printer1 on PRINT-SRV.local.contoso.com"
For me I cannot reproduce and even worse not correctable.
I do not see why a client with the printer: Printer1 on PRINT-SRV wraps another client with: Printer1 on PRINT-SRV.local.contoso.com technically the printe in both versions works on smooth and error free. In the present case the printer drawing on the client must be but always the same, because the application centrally for the printer (Printer1 on PRINT-SRV) is configured and is not as even as configurable. Because there are about 25 printers at 41 stations in case said that virtually all time so time to install on the client I need to find a central unified solution.
The same happens if I distribute the printer via GPO in the Domain.
Be distributed the printer via GPO, it appears in the format "Printer1 on PRINT-SRV" on the Client. Added the same Printer manuelly on the Client via "add networkprinter" the Printer named "Printer1 on PRINT-SRV.local.contoso.com".
Example (with german GUI):
Printer (1) was added via GPO. Printer (2) is the same Printer from the same Server an same share added manuelly.
Who can tell me and help, where from this behavior and how you consistently can adjust it. Optimally on the client would primarily create Printer1 on PRINT-SRV (without domain extension), which extended the printer name of fee and may also trouble with the Central setting (field length).
