We are just beginning to roll out Windows 7 and are having a couple of issues getting network printers working right.
Power users are unable to add a printer as it fails when installing the driver from the print server with Access Denied. I can log in as an admin, add the printer then they can add it just fine. This would be ok as we only have 4 models so I could as an admin just add all four printer types so the drivers get loaded. I could also inject them during the OS deployment phase for new computers.
However, while this works ok when a Power users adds a printer from the same print server, when they try to add the same model printer with same driver from another print server, it comes up with the "install driver" dialog again so it fails with "Access Denied"
Either making it so a user can install print drivers, or figuring out why Win 7 makes you install the driver again when using a different print server is eluding me.
We are using all Server 2003 R2 server for print servers and the drivers are for XP & Vista. So far no Win 7 specific drivers are out for our printers but the driver seems to work fine once installed. Also, UAC is turned off.
Any ideas on what to do?
