We have a school campus with several PC labs, some still running XP Professional 32 bit and some running Win7 64 bit Enterprise images. All lab machines are locked down with DeepFreeze.
The main Domain Controller also functioned as the Print Server and was running Server 2003 R2 32 bit Standard. 32 bit and 64 bit printer drivers were installed on the server. The server share names are installed as ports on the workstations and locally installed printers are set to print to those ports. All was well.
We have just completed migrating the main server to Server 2008 R2 Standard. We migrated all permissions, shares and printers, and kept the same name in order to reduce changes required on workstations. All patches and updates have been applied to the server.
Problem: All of the XP workstations printed via the new server without any difficulty. However, the Win 7 machines, printing to the same shared printers refuse to print. I cannot see a specific error in the Event Logs, but all documents result in a printing error. It appears to be some kind of permission issue.
I have checked that up-to-date 32 bit and 64 bit printer drivers are present on the new server and have the same name. I have tried with and without the "Render print jobs on client computers" option. All printers are set to spool and start printing after last page is spooled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
