Print server shares print as admin

$

Hello,

I have a 2008r2 server being used as a print server. I usually come up with vb scripts to add users printers or remove them. However a lot of users seem to print off jobs under my name. I have looked everywhere and cant find any reason for this. They are all admins on their PC and its not everyone. This is on a variety of machines and there seems to be no pattern.

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

No rights and printers not share

We have Server 2012 setup as a print server with over 140 printers on it, it has been working fine for awhile now.  There was a job stuck in the print queue that we tried to delete but it wouldn't go away.  I restarted the print spooler and it did clear the job out, but now when you connect to the server via UNC you only see 18 printers instead of over 140.

I tried to unshared the printer and then re-share it but I get a Printer Properties popup box that says, Printer settings could not be saved.  Access is denied.  I thought this might be a rights issue, but I logged on as a domain admin and verified that I do have rights under the Security tab.  Now that I have unshared this printer I can't get it to re-share.

I looked under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares and it lists the 18 printers that I can see when I UNC to the server, but not all the rest.

If you look in event viewer under Print service you see this:

The print spooler failed to share printer MC-ICE-HP-CLJ4525 with shared resource name MC-ICE-HP-CLJ4525. Error 5. The printer cannot be used by others on the network.

Printing on Virtual Printserver with bad Performance

$

Hi all,

I have a virtual Print server running with Server 2012 on a Hyper-V host. I'm facing performance issues when clients try to print on a shared printer. I have another physical print server confirgured exactly the same and using the same drivers for other printers (but same models). From the same client I can print on the phyisical server and I'm not having any problem while printing on the virtual one causes me a delay. They are in the same Gigabit network.

Services on Physical Server: Print Server, DFS Replication & Nameserver, TrendMicro AV, Windows FW

Services on virtual server: Print Server, Azure AD Sync / DirSync client, Trendmicro AV, Windows FW

The problem: When printing from notepad (but even from other applications) there is a window appearing "now printing" while the print job is being sent to the printer. When printing via the virtual server this window stays 8.5s and freezes the application. I have measured the time in different scenarios. The test has been done from the same client:

Printing Client-> Virtual Server
All services active: 8.5s
Inactive AV: 8.5s
Inactive FW: 4s

Printing directly on Virtual Server
All services on: 1s

Printing Client -> Phyisical Server
All services on: 1s

File and print services are allowed to pass the FW. I've tried various measurements:

  • Inactivate IPv6 (registry key)
  • Inactivate chimney offload
  • inactivate RSS
  • inactivate Auto Tuning

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Jan

Printing as another user issue...

Hey guys,

I have 2 accounts, 1 is a domain admin account, the second a regular domain user; When I printusing my regular account to a shared printer (print server), the server shows the owner is mydomain admin account, but when I print to my local printer (no print server) it shows my regular user as the owner.

I'm not running the software I'm printing from as the domain admin.

What can cause this and how can I fix it?

Thanks,

Adding printer on Server causes all printers to disappear for all users

I am trying to add another HP LaserJet P1102W printer on a Server running 2008 Datacenter. I have already added 2 of these with no issue. After installing this third one, though, all users immediately lose all of their attached printers. If I delete the offending printer, all users get all of their printers back (sometimes requires them to reboot).
After an hour on the phone with HP (offshore) they said that they don't support printers on servers and that it's a Microsoft problem.
Has anyone seen this (and hopefully resolved it) ??

Win 8 and 8.1 client showing shared printer server as offline

Hi,

we have a problem with our print environment (HP and Ricoh printers).

We have some Windows 8 and 8.1 clients and a Windows Server 2008 R2 printserver.

Windows 8 and 8.1 is showing the printers as offline. Its seems the problem described here ->http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2713128

We already installed the fix on the server but this didn't resolve the issue.

Maybe somebody have the same issues and an alternate solution for this?

Best regards

Moving print services from Server 2003 Enterprise x86 to Server 2008 R2 Standard x64

I'm tasked with retiring our existing print server (2003 Ent x86) which supports approx 10 printers in one office, and moving print services to a new server running 2008 R2 x64.  Looking for documentation on the appropriate steps and if there are any special "gotchas" to be aware of.

Thanks!

32bit Printer Drivers on 2012 64bit Server

$

Quick synopsis:

64 bit Windows 2012 server setup completed.

Most of our users are 32 bit Windows XP.

I've found many of the forum posts helpful, and I've started making sure that the drivers being used are Type 3 (by installing the 32 bit driver and pointing to that one).

But what happens when the driver doesn't show up?

Let me explain. I've added the required driver (32 bit) to the driver section of the Print Management Window.

I then chose to re-add a printer I had previously removed (in order to redirect it to get Type 3). When I get to the "Use an exisiting printer driver on the computer" on the "Network Printer Installation Wizard" The driver I added, doesn't show up.

Not sure what to do now.

Help.

thanks

Disabling Networked Printer Web Interfaces

Hello,

I did a search with my novice search skills and didn't find exactly what related to my issue. I have multiple virtual print servers on Win08 R2 with networked printers from different manufacturers.  Is there a way other than going to each printer to disable web interface access via host name or IP?  I'm thinking possibly via GP.

Thanks

Canon Scan to Folder (Server 2008 R2) suddenly doesnt work

Canon Scan to Folder (Server 2008 R2) suddenly doesnt work

We have a few Canon Multi Functionals who have been able to Scan to Folder to our Server 2008 R2 File Server.

Since last Windows Updates(13 sep 2012) it doesnt work anymore...

Nothing has changed to the folders or shares. Shares are like:

\\fs01\scans\IT

Shared folder is \\fs01\scans

Share permissions are Full for Everyone

On the folder IT, only the IT department and the Canon Scan user have full conrol...

When I turn off the Windows Firewall on the FS01, it works.

Then i get a SMB = OK on the Multi Functional.

When I turn on the WIndows Firewall, i get a SMB = NG on the multifuntional

I checked the rules, and everthing concerning File and Printer Sharing is allowed...

Can anyone please think what to do?
Because  really don't want to go on with the Windows Firewall Disabled.

The Endpoint Protection 2010 Anti Virus is installed on the FS01, but since disabling the Windows Firewall works, i don't think the Anti Virus has anything to do with it.

Update: I just tried it to two other  Servers 2008 R2 (with also the Windows Firewall on) and it works! So there is something wrong with that one Server... But as far as I can see, the firewall has all File and Printer Sharing things open... And when i log on with the Canon Scan user on a PC i can browse to them locations just fine. I also reset the firewall setting to default and reopened the printers and sharing settings

How Do i disable ""enable advance Printing features on windows server 2008 ""

Hi ,

I have a windows server 2008 which is used as  a terminal server . Users at remote locations log on to this server via "" DYNDNS"" to user our ERP and company files. We use ""DOT MATRIX PRINTERS "" to print  . As we all know that ""enable advance printing feature"" is checked by default on windows server 2008 the format of our ""DOT MATRIX PRINTOUTS "" CHANGE  which creates a big mess.

I would like to know if there is any way where i can disable this feature permanently.

Printer Not Showing In List Directory

I've added two new printers and the issue is they are not in the printer list but if you UNC directly to it you can add it that way.

The troubleshooting I've done it

Restart the print spooler

Checked the permissions

Any ideas?

viewing client printer connections print server

Is there any way to show what client machines are connected on a windows 2012 print server?

In other words which windows 7 machines are currently using a network printer shared off of the print server?  Something like in computer management where you get to see open files on server.

Deployed Printers (Print Management) disappeared on one 2008 TS

Hi,

I have a single 2008R2 Terminal Server that's no longer receiving printers from our 2008R2 print server (deployed using GP via. the Print Management console). We have 4 other 2008R2 TS that are properly receiving the printers. All TS are built from the same image.

Until Monday, all 5 of our TS were receiving the deployed printers properly. AFAIK, nothing's changed. There are no new errors or relevant information in the event log of the problem TS.

Now, an employee can log into any of the 4 working TS and get their printers properly. As soon as they log into the last (non-working) TS, they don't receive any printers. This behavior also applies to super-users (like my domain admin ID). This behaviour persists across reboots.

Printers are deployed with the same per-Machine GPO to all 6 of our terminal servers. User GPOs (with loopback processing) ensures that only the correct floor's printers are assigned to a user. GPMC tells me that printers are deployed properly ('Printer Connections' show all the printers and 'Deployed Printer Connections' reports 'Success').

How can I track down this issue and fix things?

Thanks,
Greg

Edit: We have a single print server at our organization, so all TS use the same print server.

Microsoft enhanced Point and Print Compatibility Driver causing preferences to be shared between different printers

Hi all,

I've recently installed some printers on Windows Server 2012 R2 to be shared on Windows 7 machines. I had no problems installing or sharing them, or installing them on the client machines. That was until a user discovered that when they'd change their preferences on one printer (to A5 sheets), those settings would be carried across to another of their installed printers (a different model).

I checked the drivers to discover that a number of the printers are using the Microsoft Enhanced Point and Print Compatibility Drivers instead of their native drivers.

I did a bit of reading on the subject and understand what this driver is, it doesn't seem right that it should be carrying settings between different print devices that use this driver?

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how to rectify it? We can't require users to change their settings each time they want to print to a different networked printer.

Splwow64.exe error

Hi.

Our users are getting all of a sudden the follwing error when they try to print on our Xerox printers:

splwow64.exe - System Error

The program can't start because x2utili6.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

The users are local admins on their workstation, the printers are mounted automatically by GPO, these are Windows 7 x64 machines, it is affecting not all users (i can print myself without any issue).

I have tried restarting the spooler service and delete the C:\WINDOWS\SPOOLER\PRINTERS files without any luck.

The dll file is located in two places:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\x2univx.inf_amd64_neutral_0d51743efa7abccc

C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3

splwow64.exe crash due to hpbpro.dll_unloaded

Environment:

Server:
Windows 2008 R2 SP1
HP UPD PCL6 5.7.0.16448

Client:
Windows 7 x64 SP1
Point and Print GPOs configured.
Print Driver Isolation enabled and set to Shared (since Isolated is not configurable via GPO).

Issue:

Win7 clients occasionally report splwow64.exe crashing due to hpbpro.dll_unloaded.  Unable to reproduce on demand.  Eventually the spooler recovers, but still annoying for the end users to be unable to print for a while.  Doesn't appear to occur for other vendors.  Have already ran the FixIt for Printing in full mode to reset spooler on a client, but the crash continues.

Details:

\Windows\System32\hpbpro.dll is version 15.2.1.51
\Windows\splwow64.exe is version 6.1.7601.22268
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2815716 (among other printing related hotfixes) are installed.

Printer Drivers - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-Bit - HP 6600 e-All-In-One Printer

Hello,

I have spoken with HP customer support who referred me
to Microsoft customer support who in turn requested that I submit my
question on these forums.  I currently have a server with a Windows
Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-Bit OS and a HP Officejet 6600 printer; on
the HP drivers website they list Windows Server 2008, I have downloaded
and attempted to install this but end up getting an error message
stating that my OS is not compatible. Can someone please help me in
obtaining the proper drivers or directing me where to get additional
support. Thanks

Using Server Essentials 2012 R2, I have fax server installed and I have email and save to file Enabled.  The fax rings but does not save anything to file or to email. Did I miss something or is there a way to troubleshoot this problem. Thank You in advance
