I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Fax Server role installed. I can send faxes without any issue but 6/10 faxes received fail with the error "The Fax service failed to receive a fax. From: . CallerId: . To: Fax. Pages: 0. Device Name: U.S. Robotics V.92 USB Voice Modem."
This modem is supported on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the latest drivers are installed.
I have tried decreasing and even disabling the FIFO buffer for the fax modem. This did not help. The modem is set to answer after 3 rings. The modem will answer fine but will fail to receive randomly. Some faxes will receive without any issue. I am at a loss with this error. Has anyone else experienced this or possibly have a suggestion, fix or workaround?
I have used this exact make/model modem on other Windows Server 2008 R2 server setups without any issues. The only difference with this setup is that it's on an HP Proliant server. I have the modem plugged into the front USB ports on the server. Could this make a difference? Could it possibly be a BIOS setting issue? IRQ priority issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A network printer was moved from one location to another recently, and it got a new IP address since it is now in a different subnet.
I confirmed that the IP address in the printer was changed and, on the print server. But it still shows up in Print Management as "offline", so it is also showing up as offline on the workstations it's deployed to. The users can print to it. I can ping it's IP.
Any ideas why it would be showing as offline?
This is causing confusion for users who know to search for printers. The printers in their office location should appear, but a few printers in some locations have lost their location property in AD and as such when searching for a printer it doesn't appear automatically.
The printer lists up only if you select "Entire Directory" and we can see that the printers are missing their location information.
We are using a Native 2012r2 Windows Domain.
Hi All,
I want to set printers in such a way that, users by default gets B/W print out from the printers. I tried to set it through, printer preference on individual printers properties added to print server, but not working.
Print Server: 2012 R2
Printer Server = Windows Server 2008 R2 (SP1)
Printer = Intermec PM4i (label printer)
Issue: There are specific settings within the printer driver that are necessary for printing our labels. We install the printer on our print server, and use the latest driver from Intermec. Next we go into the driver properties/settings --> Printer Properties --> Advanced tab --> Printing Defaults.. Here we make all of our modifications.
After we make the modifications and save them, we refresh the screen and open the printing defaults again. ..And nothing has been saved! It's like it ignored everything we modified and put them back to the defaults.
So we called Intermec and they recommended a 'do everything' approach. That is, reset the physical printer to factory defaults, update firmware, etc. They didn't think it would help, but it was the only actions they could come up with. We figured before we did all that, we'd try setting up the print queues on a different server. This new one is Server 2012. ..And surprise, the modifications are retained no problem. Consequently, we decided not to follow Intermec's recommendations, for now. If it works on one server, but not the other, then something is going on with the first server.
So on the first server we used the Print Management utility (in Administrative Tools) to remove Intermec printer, associated printer ports, and any Intermec drivers on the server. Then reboot, then try again. ..And again the settings are not being retained.
Has anyone encountered this behavior before? This could be with any make/model of printer, not necessarily Intermec. Unfortunately the server where the drivers are retaining their settings is a dev server, and ultimately they need to go back to the original server (it's our enterprise print server for the organization).
Thoughts? Suggestions?
There were print cluster set up under windows 2008 r2 server and some print queue built there.
I found that some document get sucked on specified print queue, i try delete those document but got no luck.
After further check, i found the related files to that sucked document are located in "spool" folder. I try delete them but there were warning message stated that it were accessed by print spooler services.
I did not want to stopped the print spooler service to clear those sucked print job as all print queue on the print cluster server would got affected.
Therefore, i would like to know if there were any alternative way to clear those sucked print job without the print spooler service restarted/stopped on server side.
Thanks for any suggestion.
Hi All,
Is there any way we can force users to print B/W on 1 printers and some users to print Color on same printer? Network share name will be different for different users but IP will be same.
Server OS: Windows 2008 R2 Standard
Function: Primary Domain Controller and Print Server
Clients: All are running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit SP1
We're considering disabling the HP Universal Print Driver Language Monitor and in-turn Bi-directional Printing due to potential server spooler instabilities, before we do this the IT Manager wants to be sure:
1. What functionality is lost when disabling Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing?
2. What else uses Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing them? In other words what may break?
3. What specifically do Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing provide?
Thanks
Hi
a faw days ago i started getting spool service crashed on my print server
i read some articles and tried almost everthing ,
the last thing i did was isolating the printers and fixing the GPO for the server
now the spool service is ok but the PrintIsolationHost.exe is now crashing (at least its not killing the server )
how can i know what printer driver is causing all of this ??
please assist
Faulting application name: PrintIsolationHost.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bd3b1Hi
I've read a lot of forums and this issue has been discussed many times. I've tried to follow the suggestions, but still the same issue.
The issue is simple: We are using GPO to deploy network printers. The domain is set to level 2012R2 and the print server is also 2012 R2. We use the same procedure for printers such as HP, Konica Minolta and that's fine. It this case I need to deploy a Brother MFC-8510DN printer and it this case the drivers are missing on the Windows 7 Clients and have to be installed from the print server. Standard users are then asked for admin credentials, and domain admins still have to click the button to install the driver. This means that the printer is not automatically deployed to anyone, not to admins either, only if they add the printer manually from the server and click the button to install the driver.
To solve this I've created a new GPO:
Computer Configuration --> Policies --> Windows Settings --> Security Settings --> Local Policies/Security Options --> Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers (Disabled)
I've also laborated with Point and print settings:
User Configuration --> Policies --> Administrative Templates --> Controlpanel/Priters --> Point and Print restrictions
...but it doesnt work at all.
I appreciate if someone can help with this issue!
Thank you
Hello all,
Quick scenario, where print server has a print queue shared with several clients. Each user is sending jobs using this shared queue. Is it possible that users only see their print jobs when opening the print queue, instead of all jobs, from other users, being sent to that print queue.
I am aware that you can mask the job title and job owner, from the driver prespective. Nevertheless I am wondering if there is something from a service or policy prespective that can be applied globally to all printer, independely of the print driver in use.
Thanks
I am setting up MAB for my environment and I want to make sure I am setting it up correctly, as I see some articles stating there is a reg edit needed and others that don't mention it at all.
I have Dell PowerConnect switch with 802.1X authentication working for my Domain Computers.
I now want to allow non-802.1x capable devices to be assigned the correct vlans (Printers, IP Phones, etc).
I have created a user account in AD for the device, using lowercase MAC Address for the username and password.
I have set the switchport to allow MAB
I have created a NPS Network Policy for one of the devices and assigned the groups it belongs to and set Authentication Method to: Unencrypted (PAP,SPAP).
I keep receiving this error in the logs "The user attempted to use an authentication method that is not enabled on the matching network policy"
Does anyone have advice or can direct me to a nice guide/checklist of all the areas that need to be set to allow this to happen?
Hi,
we have a problem with our print environment (HP and Ricoh printers).
We have some Windows 8 and 8.1 clients and a Windows Server 2008 R2 printserver.
Windows 8 and 8.1 is showing the printers as offline. Its seems the problem described here ->http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2713128
We already installed the fix on the server but this didn't resolve the issue.
Maybe somebody have the same issues and an alternate solution for this?
Best regardsHi there.
I have a problem with printing on a printer connected via a local port. Directly generated printouts from the print server is ok, but print from another computer via a printer share always ends with an error. Error does not apply the printers connected via port tcp/ip
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Is it possible to use Remote Desktop Easy Print in 2008 R2 without installing any of the RDS Roles?
I would have added the Remote Desktop Easy Print driver in 2008 R2 and would like to use the built in 2 administrative remote desktop sessions to be able to print using Easy Print (as the incoming printer driver can easily fluctuate). I would like this functionality but don't wish to install the RDS roles if possible.
Thanks in advance
