I'm on SBS 2003 with a fully working Fax -> Print solution through Microsoft Fax Manager. I also want to add an external e-mail address to this. We do not use Exchange or have any of the services enabled. We use Google Apps for our e-mail solutions.
In the SMTP settings of the Fax properties I have used smtp.gmail.com and setup my credentials correctly. I know these are correct 100% without question as I can copy and paste these usernames/passwords from an already logged in Gmail. No matter what port I use (there's only 2 to choose from with Google, 465 and 587) or what Authentication method I use (Windows, Basic or Anonymous) it fails. Every time.
Can anyone offer advice as the error code I'm getting relates to SMTP but they're not incorrect. Can this work with external SMTP servers or does it have to be Exchange it's routed through.
