Print spooler keeps crashing

Our spooler service keeps crashing. Its almost always the same error. We have probably 200 HP and Konica Printers on it. I know someone will say update the driver but the driver for which one the error has Faulting module path:C:\Windows\System32\hpmlm225.dll So its probably one of the HP ones but when I expand drivers and follow the paths none show hpmlm225.dll so I don't know which one it might be. Is there any way to tell?

HP Scans to a Network Shared folder on Server 2016

$

Hi,

(Forgive me if this question has already been asked, but I can't seem to find a solution)

We are using a HP Pagewide Pro 477dw printer to scan to a network shared folder on Windows Server 2016.

The printer itself works great scanning on USB to the local host and (when networked) works great scanning to other network shared folders on a Windows Server 2008 and 2012.

When comes to the 2016 server that is when we see the error.

The printer will scan a document around 1.5 MB fine, but you will have to wait 5-10 minutes to scan again. If you try to scan right after, then you will get a general error and the printer freezes.

SMBv1 is enabled. SMBv2 protocols are enabled. I've tried to disabled SMBv2 protocols to force an SMBv1 connection. Result of that is that the shared folder became inaccessible. Enabled SBMv2 protocols and disabled SMBv1 protocols. Result of that is scanning capability got worse.

As of right now, both SMBv1 and SMBv2 protocols are enabled on the server.

To ensure that the least amount of data wasted in transmission is being used, I've reduced the scanning to black/gray scale only and dropped the dpi to 150 (still readable)

The HP scan to Network Folder path is \\ip address\folder\sub-folder\ due to the \\hostname\folder\sub-folder failed to provide a connection.

Credentials shouldn't be a problem since we have other scanners at different locations scanning to their respective folders in the same folder as this location on the 2016 server.

Tried adjusting the SMB protocols that the printers used to match the 2016 server and results are still the same.

I am wanting to know if there was something that I haven't tried yet that you'll may have come across with the same issue that I haven't seen and suggest that I try.

Thank you,

Ernest A

Printbrm.exe fails to import all print queues event ID 81 error: 0x800706BA

I am trying to migrate print queues from a Windows server 2008 R2 print server to a Windows server 2012 R2 print server.   I've followed all the technet articles on how to do this and I get all the drivers, all the ports, forms and most of the printers. The source print server has just over 1000 printers, the destination only ends up with about 680.  The error logged in the event viewer for the printers that have failed to migrate properly is:

Event 81, PrintBRM:

Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to restore print queuepirntername. The restore process will continue, skipping this queue. Error: 0x800706BA.

I've checked to ensure the account I'm using for the export/import does have full rights for all printers print management, is both local and domain admin.  I can't seem to find any pertinent information on this problem.  Many articles outlining issues relating to cross architecture migrations, x86 to x64, etc, but none of these seem to apply to my setup.  I've tried the export/import several times, and the export list seems to include ALL the printers (including the one that don't end up on the destination print server).

Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this problem, I need to get this 2012/Win8 print server up and running very soon!!

I recently updated to server 2016 and setup the fax server role. When I deployed the fax server the incoming faxes are stored in a folder as a .tif file. In the previous fax server 2008 the income faxes where saved as a .pdf file.

How can I change the format of the incoming faxes from .tif to .pdf file format?

I am using a US robotic internal fax modem.

Hybrid Cloud Print dependency loop/issues

Hi there,

We have issues rolling out Hybrid Cloud Print.

It gives a dependencylock error, when installing it through NuGet.
I tried downloading the DLL's myself, but still it would error out with a MSVC100.dll error.

Also, the official documentation refers to settings in the legacy Enterprise App experience, which is deprecated since this month.

On Reddit there are several people complaining about these issues, so it doesn't seem like an individual issue:

Network Printer shows offline

Print Server - Windows 2012 r2

Client - Windows 10 64bit

Issue: Client shows network printer to be offline but print server shows printer to be online and available.

Troubleshooting: Restart of spooler service corrects the issue for client, but it re-occurs at random (sometimes weeks in between events).

Nothing reported in the event logs referencing the spooler service.

Both server and client are patched up to date with standard security and OS patches.

Cannot Create New Fax with Windows Fax And Scan

Hello Community,

   I am trying to set up Windows Fax and Scan using a fax server. I have the fax server set up on a Windows 2012 R Server and I have Windows Fax and Scan running on a Windows 7 computer. The fax account is set up to the fax server and it says connected. I can see that it is connected because I have WFS running on the server also and can send and receive faxes from there. The problem is on the Windows 7 computer when I try to create a New Fax, I click the "New Fax" button and immedately get a dialog that says: There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred. Any suggestions?

   Thanks in advance,

PDF printing with Windows Server 2016 hangs

$

We have a Windows Server 2016 with the print server role installed. We have about 40 printers installed on that server. Randomly users will print a PDF to the server and it will hang at "Printing" in the print queue. It will never print and will not allow any additional prints to process. They are Konica Minolta printers. We tried updating the print drivers but that didn't seem to help.

Every time the printer hangs we have to stop the Print Spooler service, go into C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS\ and delete the "stuck" SPL file.

This is a good workaround, but I would like to find a fix to this issue.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Any suggestions on fixing these errors?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

On Windows Server 2016, I launched a fax server. My server have two Fax modems and two phone number. Each modem connected to a separate line.

Sometimes, server can't receive the faxes properly. For example, I send 10 faxes, but the server just receive 8 of them.

Any idea to solve it?

Thank you.

All Shared printers (Ricoh, HP, Xerox) from Windows Server 2012 R2 goes offline on all computers (Win7/8/10)

Dear All,

We have several shared printers on our windows server 2012R2. It was working fine so far but recently since last few weeks all of a sudden, all printers appear offline on the user's computers. We have windows 7/8/8.1 and 10. All the printers show offline on all the computers (200+).

Tried installing all the available updates on the server but the issue still persisted.

On some users computers, we installed the printers manually and some were installed with Group policy. The problem affects all the users and all the printers. We are using Ricoh Universal print driver, HP Plotter driver and Xerox model specific driver.

The only solution so far is to restart the spooler service on the server, after which all the printers appear online.

Right now a windows task scheduler has been created to restart the service every 30 mins but the issue is still sometimes encountered just after 10 minutes of service restart. Attaching the installed updated on the server.

Requesting assistance if anyone has encountered anything similar.

By the way all the available windows updates have been installed on the server but the issue still persists.

@Alan Morris  - I read your answer about the security tokens for a question (link below) but how do we fix such a problem. We are using Equitrac. Does that affect Windows Print spooler in any way ?

Windows 10 - Faxing Issue

I cannot fax from my Windows 10 computer. I do not know if this means it is missing a driver or a modem or what. On XP, I never had this problem. I just need my computer to send and receive faxes. And not via the internet, through a traditional phone line aka landline.

I am not good with this technology non-sense. I spent all of this money and cannot even fax. Truly unbelievable.

If someone can help me, please send me an email: bryan@mygmpros.com.

Thanks.

WMI / Print server - Query for shared printer and port faster ?

$

Hi everyone.

I work on a RESTful service in WCF (C#) to manage Print Queues remotely on multiple print servers (Windows Server 2012 R2 / 2016). I use WMI classes (Win32_Printer, Win32_PrinterConfiguration, Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort...etc) and System.Management/System.Printing namespaces to achieve that. All works flawlessly, I can create my shared/published print queues in AD, with corresponding port and driver as well, througha website dedicated for that.

But, some of these servers host thousands of printer queues, 7000+ for the biggest.

The code I'm using right now is :

public List<Queue> GetQueuesByServer(SearchModel model)
{
    var queues = new List<Queue>();
    var query = new ObjectQuery($"SELECT * FROM Win32_Printer WHERE {model.Attribute} like '%{model.Value}%'");

    using (var searcher = new ManagementObjectSearcher(managementScope, query))
    {
        var queuesCollection = searcher.Get();

        foreach (ManagementObject m in queuesCollection)
        {
            var queue = new Queue();

            if (m["Location"] != null)
            {
                queue.comment = m["Comment"]?.ToString();
                queue.driverName = m["DriverName"]?.ToString();
                queue.isDirect = (bool)m["Direct"];
                queue.isPublished = (bool)m["Published"];
                queue.isQueued = (bool)m["Queued"];
                queue.isShared = (bool)m["Shared"];
                queue.keepPrintedJobs = (bool)m["keepPrintedJobs"];
                queue.isRawOnlyEnabled = (bool)m["RawOnly"];
                queue.isBidiEnabled = (bool)m["EnableBIDI"];
                queue.scheduleCompletedJobsFirst = (bool)m["DoCompleteFirst"];
                queue.name = m["Name"]?.ToString();
                queue.isBODPEnabled = GetBODPState(queue.name);
                queue.portName = m["PortName"]?.ToString();
                queue.portType = m["PrintJobDataType"]?.ToString();
                queue.printProcessor = m["PrintProcessor"]?.ToString();
                queue.location = m["Location"]?.ToString();
                queue.shareName = m["ShareName"]?.ToString();
                queue.server = model.Server;

                queues.Add(queue);
            }
        }

        return queues;
    }
}

Same logic to get printer ports.

This operation can take more than 900 seconds with the biggest centralized print server. With a "normal" printserver (~10/20 queues), it's instant. I tested with both my REST client and our dedicated website.

URL: https://print.api/QueueService.svc/GetQueuesByServer

{"Server":"SRV01","Attribute":"Location","Value":"/FRANCE/PARIS/SITE_XX/BUILDING_XX..."
}

In this example, I want to retrieve all print queues only for a specific site in Paris. We never want to get all print queues hosted on a specific centralized print server, the location attribute is used as filter, based on site / building / floor.

I am hopping someone has a faster way to do that. Is there an obvious optimization ?

Best regards.

Create IPP Internet Print Provider port via registry key with authentication

$

Hi to all,

I/we need your help, we would create an installer/msi pack. or so to install in IPP printer port with authentication informations and a printer driver.

We found this in the registry:

$key = (Get-Item HKLM:\).OpenSubKey("SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers\Internet Print Provider\Ports\", $true).CreateSubKey("https://printer.contoso.com:443/printer")

$key.SetValue('Authentication', '0', 'DWord')

$key.SetValue('Password', (New-Object byte[] 0), 'Binary')

$key.SetValue('UserName', (New-Object byte[] 0), 'Binary')

But how can we set this via script or so. if i try this manually the "authentication" value is change to 256, but Password and username are still the same, but at the port in the printer are the values set. are these informations stored in another registry key?

Thanks for support!
