Enable branch office direct print with IPP printer on server 2016
Hi to all,
is it possible to enable an Printer/Printer Driver with IPP port with the Branche Office direct print Feature on a Server 2016 or so?
I aks this, because i think there is no big difference it is a Printer with LPR/RAW print port or with an IPP port.
Or is this a lmitation or is there another way?
I would share an Printer Driver with an IPPS/HTTPS port to print to a Cloud Service.
Thanks
Phil
Printers show offline

Modify security of the server via print management (but via command line)
So the group print management doesn't let the users modify tcpip printer ports unless i add them in the security of the server via print management.
Anyone have any idea how to do that work via command line?
The dialog box where i manually edit it, is below.
i will be Migrating Print Server 2008 to server 2016 and new server name is different than old one , please advise
Windows 10 apps don't print in color to a color printer by default
How do I change Windows 10 apps like Edge and Photos, so that the default "Color mode" is "Color" instead of "Monochrome"?
All Shared printers (Ricoh, HP, Xerox) from Windows Server 2012 R2 goes offline on all computers (Win7/8/10)
Dear All,
We have several shared printers on our windows server 2012R2. It was working fine so far but recently since last few weeks all of a sudden, all printers appear offline on the user's computers. We have windows 7/8/8.1 and 10. All the printers show offline on all the computers (200+).
Tried installing all the available updates on the server but the issue still persisted.
On some users computers, we installed the printers manually and some were installed with Group policy. The problem affects all the users and all the printers. We are using Ricoh Universal print driver, HP Plotter driver and Xerox model specific driver.
The only solution so far is to restart the spooler service on the server, after which all the printers appear online.
Right now a windows task scheduler has been created to restart the service every 30 mins but the issue is still sometimes encountered just after 10 minutes of service restart. Attaching the installed updated on the server.
Requesting assistance if anyone has encountered anything similar.
By the way all the available windows updates have been installed on the server but the issue still persists.
@Alan Morris - I read your answer about the security tokens for a question (link below) but how do we fix such a problem. We are using Equitrac. Does that affect Windows Print spooler in any way ?
Printer Handle is invalid error while connecting to shared printers
HI Support Team,
We have installed 5 Toshiba printers (STD TCP Port) with the latest toshiba printer drivers on a win 2012 Server and shared the printers. The printers are printing the test pages when printed from the server.
But, When we try to connect them from the client, on some clients it displays the error the Printer handle is invalid.
We tried to test by installing a HP Universal Printer and Sharing it. This also resulted in the same error.
We have a mix of Client OS, Win 7 , win 8, win 8.1 and win 10.
Need assistance in resolving the issue.
Can't print from specific Microsoft applications to network printers
Hi,
We have a Windows 2012 R2 Print server with Samsung printers installed,
The printers are configured and shared properly with the latest drivers and all users can print to them successfully with the below exception:
if user open a JPG file with the 'Microsoft Photos' application and try to print, the file is sent for printing but eventually the printer does not print anything,
If user open the same file with the Paint (mspaint.exe), the user can print to the same printer successfully and file really getting printed,
Same issue with Microsoft Edge, if trying to print from Microsoft Edge nothing is being printed, but if trying to print via IE or Chrome it is getting printed successfully,
When looking in the print service event log on the server, I can see that when the printer doesn't print anything I see the below events:
Document 65, Print Document owned by XXXX on XXXX was printed on Samsung SCX-5835 6th Floor Reception through port XXXX. Size in bytes: 20036.Pages printed: 0. No user action is required.
The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00066.SHD, error code 0x5. See the event user data for context information.
When it is printing successfully I can see that the 'Pages printed' is not 0 and I don't get the error,
If the printer is installed locally as a standard TCP/IP port (without printing to a print server) the file is being printed successfully even with the 'Microsoft Photos' application, it only happens when using 'Microsoft Photos' or 'Microsoft Edge' when printing to the Print server,
Could anyone please help how this can be solved?
Thanks
No printers installed on win10
Hi we have an issue where some users are not seeing any printers listed when they try to print from any applications, not just office.
When we add a printer we get a message saying default printer cannot be set when click finish on add printer wizard.
The print spooler is running, restart doesn't help. Deleting the printer and removing all drivers and packages doesn't.
I have enabled LPR monitor in print and document features. I have created a single test printer on anew print server and still get the same issue - no printers listed.
You can add a printer through add printer in Office but you still don't see it listed.
Some users who reboot fixes the issues where others it don't. The print services are configured to MS best practices.I also noticed that if you go device and printers through control panel and select a printer you do not see any options for printing such as print properties, preferences etc.
I have no idea what else it could be, has anyone come across this before?
Migrating print server from 2008R2 to 2019
Hello Everybody,
This is my fist time migrating a print server and I'm looking for suggestions on how to go about this.
I'm working on a virtual environment.
I have a 2008 R2 print server and created a new 2019 server with print role installed. We have about 70 printers and use GPOs, My original plan was to migrate the printers from 2008 to 2019 using the print migration tool, then taking the 2008 down and transferring the the name and IP from the 2008 to the 2019 server. But I found a few instruction on google and it seems that I might have issues with my GPOs creating duplicate printers if I take this route.
Any ideas or suggestions will help.
Server 2016 Print Server CNAME
Has anyone seen this problem for Server 2016?
I've attempted to add a CNAME for our Print server as it's also a DC (not ideal but needs must) and I get an error on connection.
It seems there is a hotfix for 2012 but none that I can find for 2016.
(CNAME for the print server in a Windows Server 2012 R2 DNS brings up plenty of entries).
Thanks in advance.

HP p2035 is causing the print spooler to stop working
Hi,
I did a in-place upgrade from 2008r2 to 2012r2 it was successful, but had to roll back to my 2008 VM. But after hours I started the 2012 back up and discovery that the HP p2035 was causing the trouble.
It seems that it is a printer / driver that is bringing the whole thing down.
It was working fine under the 2008 Os but now it causes the spooler to fail in OS 2012.
I went into C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS clear a couple files in there and the spoolerstays up now
As soon as I tried to print with the HP printer the spooler failed, so I know what it is but how do I fix it?
I could not find a driver for a p2035 for 2012r2?
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a driver that can be used?
This printer is user just to print checks (MICR) so it's a little important :)
We love to hear from you!
Thanks,
Jim

Migrating print queues from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2016
I have a 2008 R2 server that has 340 print queues shared on a domain.
I am being asked to replace this server with a 2016 server, and looking for advice on doing this, what to avoid, any pitfalls, etc.
If I export using the Print Management tool, export printers to a file, will I be able to import them in 2016 without losing settings?

The problem is on the Windows 7 computer when I try to create a New Fax, I click the "New Fax" button and immedately get a dialog that says: There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

2012R2 Print Server Extremely Slow Driver Installation to CLients
Hello all,
I have a domain with both 2003 and 2012r2 domain controllers and a file/print 2012r2 server.
I will demote the 2003 DCs in a week.
It takes very long time (>5 minutes) to install new printers to windows 7 clients (hangs on “searching driver” and “downloading driver”.
When i use the command “netstat” on client I can’t find established connection (ipv4) with print server.
When i use the command “netstat” on client and I access print server file share, I find established connection (ipv4) with server (OK).
I have the same delay when using Active Directory (Devices and Printers > Add a Printer > Add a network printer) to install the driver as when double-clicking the printer share from the server (\\servername\printer-name).
After installation, when clients are printing the response time is normal.
I disable firewall on server and on client, but no luck.
I disable ipv6 on server, but no luck (I re-enable it).
Nslookup from client to server and vice versa has normal results.
SMB in particular server is working ok without delay.
I have installed universal drivers from HP, Ricoh and Lexmark on print server.
Thanks,
Alex
Server 2012 R2 Printers Not Showing up for domain admins in devices and printers
Recently built a Windows 2012 R2 Server and migrated the printers from a 2008 R2 server over. They all show up fine in devices and printers logged in as administrator. If I login as a user that is the domain admins group and the domain admins group is added to that printer's security, it is not shown in devices and printers. It also doesn't show up if you open notepad and try to print to it. However, it shows up fine in the Print Management snap-in. Now if I add that domain admin user directly to the printer's security domain\user the printer shows up in devices and printers.
domain\domain admins group - No show
domain\user - Show
The user is part of the domain admins group. The domain admins group is a part of the local admin group on the server in question. Any ideas?
Is there a way to wipe all printers and printer drivers from a Windows server?
I'm having some very annoying trouble with printers on a terminal server for a customer, and I've encountered similar problems for other customers the last half year (ish). The environment is a Windows server environment. I have all printers installed on a Windows 2019 server and shared on the network. The printers are then connected to from a Windows 2016 server, which is set up with all RDS roles (gateway, login, session host). Printer forwarding is allowed so that users connecting through remote desktop can use their locally installed printers.
The trouble started with some printers giving me error messages when I tried to print. I tried removing the printers and reinstalling them, but then I started getting errors about the printers not existing, and still they are visible under 'control printers'. The list of printers in 'control printers' is not the same as the list in the Windows 10 printer settings window, and it is also not the same when printing from different applications. When printing from Chrome for example the users are not able to switch printers, the dropdown just "jumps back" to the first item on the list if you try selecting something else.
Long story short; I've messed around a lot with this server trying to fix it, and now I just want a way to reset everything printer related so I can start from scratch. Does anyone have any tips for how I can do this? I'm dreaming about some Powershell script that will run through all registry locations where printer settings are store (both local machine and current user) and just wipe everything.
Any help would be much appreciated!
