HP Universal Printer Driver conflicts with other HP drivers? - Printer not ready

$

In our organization we have 4 different HP printermodels:

Laserjet 3055
Laserjet M525 MFP
Color Laserjet M575 MFP
Color Laserjet M775 MFP

Last friday i added the latest HP Universal Printer Driver
(upd-pcl6-x64-5.6.0.14430) to our printserver, for the HP laserjet 3055. From
that moment on, users went complaining that they can't print anymore.

The symptoms are as following:

When the user wants to print, they get the message "printer not ready". this
occurs random.
The user can't print from any application, to any printer, at that
moment.
Only a particular user has the problem, no complete department for
example.
Restarting the print spooler alone doesn't fix the issue/

I have a temporary fix for this:

Remove the printers from the users account
Empty the folder c:\windows\system32\spool\printers
Emty the folder c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64.

After a reboot the printers are readded by the loginscript, and the user can
print again.

This is a temporary fix, but after a while the problem comes back to the same
user(s).

i deleted the UPD package from the print server already, but the problem
continues. So far, only users printing to a HP M525 MFP reported the problem.
Users printing to the other devices are not affected.

facts:

Clients: Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise x64
Printserver: Windows Server 2008 x64
Drivers: each model uses it's own propriatery driver, latest version
downloaded on HP Support.

For the Laserjet 3055, only the UPD driver is available for download. I have
also problems with the UPD driver for this model, but that's another story.

Anyone have suggestions how to complete fix this issue?

Thanks in advance.

2008 r2 print server with random users getting PCL XL error messages and print gibberish

We have a Windows 2008 r2 print server that has about 270 queues and have been receiving multiple PCL XL error reports and also users printing ASCII symbols.  This is happening randomly to users running Vista and 7 machines, wide range of HP printers and printing no specific document types.   Since the event logs are no producing anything specific or red flagging anything in particular I'm a little stumped.

Printing slows dramatically when large document fails to print/remains in queue

On our Windows Server 2012 print server we are finding that printing to network printers dramatically slows when a large document (anywhere between 200MB and 1GB) sent to print fails to print for any particular reason and remains in a print queue in an error state.

Upon deleteing the failed print job, printing returns to normal speed.

The job can be stuck in any print queue (we have 60 network printers) and seems to affect all other printers.

Does anybody have any ideas why this would be happening?

How to limit network printing to local subnet only?

$

When staff travel from location to location, they routinely capture and print to a network printer on the local subnet.  When they return to their "home" center they still have the printer captures from when they were roaming and inadvertently send print jobs they are unable to retrieve.  All users accounts are located in the same OU and we do not register computers in AD.  Is there a print server or group policy setting to control network printing based on the local subnet?  PCs are Windows XP/7, Servers are Windows 2008 R2.

Printing a Separator Page Between Print Jobs

$

We have a printer which a lot of people are printing to a  lot of people are forgeting their print jobs and these eventually get tossed in the recycling bin and we're wasting paper.

Is there a way in which a printer can be configured (through Server 2008 Print Services) to automatically print a page prior or after a print job with the information of that print job on it? I've looked into creating a custom Separator Page, but from what I've read I'm skeptical as to whether that's what I'm looking for in this context.

All AD printers on a single web address - internet printing enabled

Hello,

We quite like the idea of having printers displayed on a web page.  This makes it simple for our users to just go to the website address and click on the printers they want installed.

Currently, when internet printing is enabled on a print server, you need to know the name of the print server that hosts the printers and include that name in the web address.

What I’d like, is the users to be able to go to a single website address and see all the printers listed in active directory.  Is this possible and can anyone suggest how this might be achieved?

Thanks.

Server 2008R2 - Workgroup - Annonymous Printing

Hi,

I have a Workgroup of Server 2008 R2 and W7 Pro/Ent (the current option that we need to use) that I wish to allow anonymous printing to specific printers for guest access (W7 & XP). My Workgroup clients can connect fine as their local logons also exist on the server with the same passwords.

If i enter the URL on a guest machine to the path of the printer shared on the server i get 'logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer'

I have added the Anonymous Group to the printer that is shared but the error persists.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dear Forum Members,

we use the Windows LPD service to print from a Linux system.

On the Linux system we get from time to time connection timeouts.

The print server receive daily approx. 10.000 jobs over the LPD service.

My question is which limits has the LPD service?

Thanks & best regards

Windows Server 2003 R2 x64: slow printing on terminal server

$

Hi!

During print server transfer I encountered an issue with printing from terminal servers - it's really slow, also the printer properties take a long time to open.

My environment:

OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 + all updates

Pinter driver: latest HP Universal Printer Driver

Printers: HP LaserJet 4250dtn

Print servers: new - Windows Server 2003 R2 x64, old one - x86.

During problem investigation, was found out that printing from workstations (Windows XP x86) is normal, the slowdowns occur only on terminal servers.

I tried to change the driver to a non-universal one, but it didn't help.

Hope someone can give me some ideas in which direction to look for answers.

Thanks!

Currently on a user's computer, a printer queue appears disconnected or disabled but not respond to IP lets you print, server no events

listed in the event viewer computer

Failed to initialize \ \ Print Server \ print queue in \ \ Prinserver \ print $ \ BIDI \ HPBOID.DLL. Error: 2. The system can not find the file specified.

. This may be due to the instability of the system or lack of system resources.

Using a sniffer on the print server appears

Server 2008 R2 Print Server - Clients can't load driver from the server over a WAN (different AD site)

$

Local clients (Windows 7 64-bit) have no issues clicking on the shared printer and installing the drivers, but when trying to add the printer from across our WAN, the client gets prompted "Do you trust this printer?", but once you select "Install Driver", they simply get "Windows cannot connect to the printer, operation failed with error 0x0000007c". The server and client are on the same domain, just a different Active Directory site. Permissions are all good, double-checked that. It shouldn't be a connectivity issue because I can add a shared printer from our 2003 print server across the WAN no problem. Also, if I install the print driver manually on the client, and then connect to the shared printer over the WAN, it completes successfully, so it's just the driver that won't install over the WAN.

My only hunch right now is perhaps our WAN accelerator is causing the problem, but that doesn't explain why the 2003 server works, unless they deliver the driver to the client via different method. I'm going to bypass the accelerator to rule it out and will post back to confirm, but please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Best way to allocate output tray to user

$

At the moment we are allocating different output trays on a printer to a user via an additional shared printer on the server.

Is there a better solution to do it so we don't have so many shared printers on our print servers?

Server OS is 2008 and 2012 and client is Windows 7.

Printers are Lexmark printer with the universal print driver.

Win Fax&Scan Want to Stop Prompting for Fax Account

$

We have setup a fax server on the client server and it is shared out as a printer.  It works fine, but when faxing from workstations/clients the Windows Fax & Scan program always prompts that "a fax account has not be created; the default account will automatically be selected".  I want to stop this prompt from even popping up.  Does anyone know how I can disable it or get it to where it no longer needs to prompt the user for input?  I have tried adding a second (dummy) fax account and have the default as the default, but it still prompts with the same message.

Receiving fdintNEXT_CABINET error when attempting to restore cab file

I was attempting to restore a cab file on our backup server (W2K3 x86) with Printmig. The cab file began unpacking normally, but then got caught in a loop with the message fdintNEXT_CABINET (please see image below)

The cab file contains 261 print queues and is 911 MB. The file was backed up with PrintBackup.cmd on another W2K3 x86 print server.

What throws me are the Asian characters. How do I fix this? All help is greatly appreciated

Printer Shortcuts

Hello

We have an existing file and print server (2003 R2) and on the users desktop we have got a folder containing shortcuts to printers.

The user can logon and open the folder and choose what printer he wants to print to by double clicking on the shortcut

We have now moved to a new file and print server (2008 R2 x64) and want to have the same functionality as on the old server

We have been trying for the last two days to create shortcuts, edit shortcuts etc

Has anybody else done this or know a better way?

Regards

Help please. Multiple Computers, Same Domain Username Print Notification

$

Hello everyone,

I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure this one out.  I have a department of 6 computers all logged in as the same "department user."  They all have a network printer on another server added to their printers.

Sometimes, NOT ALWAYS, when one of the pc's prints to this printer, some of the other PC's will get the notification as well.  I've gone to the server that the printer is on and set the option under remote notification to notify compter instead of user, but it is still happening.  Just to cover all bases, I did the same on each of the department PC's.  However, they are still receiving the notifications from time to time.

I could disable the notifications all together, but the problem is I need the notification to stay on the pc that actually prints (it's part of a workflow process to confirm that they actually printed it) because it goes to another area of the building.

I've played around with different combinations of settings on both the print-server side and the local pc's without avail.  The next step (which i do NOT want to do) is to install the printer as a local tcp/IP printer on each machine instead of a network printer.

Please help me.
