Fail-over options for Standalone Print Server
Printing with IPP over SSL
Hi,
To ensure End to end encryption of print Jobs, i want to use IPP over SSL. I have a centralized Print Server WIN2008 R2 and WIN 7 Clients. I have installed/enabled the Internet Printing Client on both, IIS and Print Server Role at the Server and have enabled Windows Internet Printing within the Print Server Role.
To give it a try, i started with IPP Printing without SSL. Printer hardware is IPP enabled. I could create a Printer with Internet Port at the Client to Print to the Printer directly. Same works for the 2008 Server (Printing directly from the Server to the Hardware Printer).
My Problem is, that i cant connect from the client to the Printer Object at the Server. I even can't share the IPP Printer Object on the server. It refused the action with the Message "Sharing is not supported for this type of Printer"
Is there a way to print (first just with IPP) in the manner i plan to do?
Is there a instruction Manual how to configure the print environment to met my security considerations?
Thanks and regards,
Axel

Printer Server in Windows server 2012
Hi Guys.
I have a small query, I have Windows Server License , Client license and user CALs . I want to implement Printer server in my organization. Do i need purchase any specific License\CALs for this implimentation?
Thanks for the help in advance :)
user name isnt transferred with the print job using IPP
Environment: Windows 2008 R2 Servers, WIN 7 and WIN 8.1 clients, all 64 Bit
I setup a printing environment including a FollowYou solution. To realize data encryption from end2end, we decide to use IPP over SSL for Printing. Everything works fine, IIS is installed, all certificates are in place and the necessary clients are enabled/ installed.
Because of the FollowYou solution, i need the origin user who sent the Job from his client via the print server to the printer. Thats where my problem starts. I tried three ways to print from the client: SMB, IPP and IPP over SSL. Just if i use SMB, the username is transferred correctly with the Job and can be seen in the job list in the stopped printer queue. Neither with IPP nor with IPP over SSL the jobname is coming with the job (i see nt authority/IUSR instead).
Is there something i can do to see the username within the job using IPP?
Thanks and regards,
Windows Server 2008 R2 Printers Stop Sharing
Hi,
We have a Windows Srv 2008 R2 installation which is our print server. We have noticed that everyday for the last few days at approx 11:55am that people cannot print and also lose the ability to search for printers. To fix the problem we have to reboot the server.
I have looked in the event viewer but cannot see anything that would suggest a fault.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Print Manager On Print Server - Printers List Blank
Hello,
Having a strange issue where my print server has recently stopped showing the printers in the Print Manager.
If I connect print manager to another print server, I don't see any printers on the other server either. Can see all the ports, drivers, forms and from what I have read those three items render back to Print Manager differently than printers themselves.
restarting the spooler has no impact, server reboot doesn't affect it either.
no firewall enabled.
I can access the shared printers on the server, and click view remote printers to get that special printer share path on the server just fine.
I can view and manage the printers from another client using Print Manager and see everything.
have flushed DNS and tried again with no success.
tried adding print server via FQDN, IP and same result.
On the plus side, so far no interruption in print service to users as it appears to just be cosmetic management issue which is super frustrating.
Server is fully patched.
Any ideas?
Installing 32-bit drivers on 64-bit server
This is really frustrating me at this point.
If anyone can please stick it through with me till I can solve this..
So I already installed the 64-bit driver using Windows native driver finder for our printer HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series PCL6. Now I need to install the 32-bit driver on the server as well, because most of our clients are running 32-bit XP.
I downloaded the 32-bit driver from the vendor website since our windows 2008 r2 server does not have it natively. I put the .exe on the C: drive and ran the .exe. It created a folder with all the driver components on the C: Drive. Here are the steps I took to try and install the 32-bit driver:
I right clicked the printer --> Properties --> Sharing tab --> additional drivers. I checked the x86 box (by the way x64 box is checked and uncheckable). Then, when it asks to locate the driver files, I pointed it to this new folder on the C: drive with my 32-bit driver components, the autorun.inf. IT SAYS "the specified location does not contain the driver for the requested process archtiecture", I am so sick of this error message.
This makes no sense. What am I doing wrong?
P.S. Why in God's name is the 64-bit driver called "HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series PCL6", whereas the 32-bit driver is called "HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series PCL 6"?? What's with the space between the PCL and 6? Is this causing me the problem?
Problems routing faxes through email
Sometimes it will work, and then eventually an inbound fax will get stuck with a status of "Retrying Routing" when viewing it in the Windows XP Fax Console on the client. When this happens, the fax server will record the following 2 events in the Application event log:
Event ID: 32083 Source: Microsoft Fax Task Category: Inbound User: N/A
Unable to route fax C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue\1C9889BC4B822.tif to the requested e-mail address.
The following error occurred: 0x80040211
This error code indicates the cause of the error.
Check the SMTP server configuration, and correct any anomalies.
Event ID: 32089 Source: Microsoft Fax Task Category: Inbound User: N/A
The Fax Service failed to execute a specific routing method. The service will retry to route the fax according to the retries configuration. If the retries fail, verify routing method configuration.
Job ID: 0x0401c9889bc4b822.
Received on Device: 'Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem'
Sent from: '123123456'
Received file name: 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue\1C9889BC4B822.tif'.
Routing extension name: 'Microsoft Routing Extension'
Routing method name: 'Route through e-mail'
Sometimes, the fax will eventually go through. Other times, it will fail completely. If it fails completely, the following event is logged in the Application event log and all faxes after this one will fail too.
Event ID: 32078 Source: Microsoft Fax Task Category: Inbound User: N/A
A successfully received fax was not routed automatically. You can find the fax in the Inbox/Incoming archive folder by its Job ID. Job ID: 0x0401c988900827e4. Received on Device: 'Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem' Sent from: '987-654-3210'
If I clear all the stuck faxes out of the "Incomming" folder of the fax console, then future faxes might come through successfully (by clear I mean delete them).
I followed the instructions from the following link to get an authenticated user set up instead of using anonymous, but that hasn't helped.
http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/04/02/inbound-fax-routing-may-fail-due-to-the-exchange-intelligent-message-filter-imf.aspx
Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated as this is getting frustrating.
Thanks!

Print drivers on Windows 7 & 8.1 Clients Missing dependent files
Hi,
I have been driving myself crazy with this issue, and I have read the other various articles and applied the hotfixes listed in
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2864755/
I currently have a client who is using PaperCut with Toshiba printers, since deploying the Toshiba Universal Printer 2 driver I have been plagued with issues, as mentioned I have applied the hot fixes listed above but sure enough the issue has come back.
The problem is random and not limited to just Windows 7 clients, I was wondering if anyone has a solution?
Regards,
Dean Clarke.
What happened if there is a problem during printer import to new server?
Hi, Friends
I am working on printer server upgrade and printer migration project in my company.
The old server is Windows Server 2003 x64, and the new one is Windows Server 2008 x64.
When I import the file to new server, I get message 'Import complete' (but the progress bar is grey, not blue).
I check the the problem in Event Viewer.
Event ID 29
Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) could not restore language monitor Esker MF Language Monitor while restoring print queues from a file. Check the print queue backup file and examine the Windows error returned by this event to determine the cause.
And when I check the printers, there is nothing imported, no printer, no dirver, no port.
So, I am confused if the problem in event viewer stops other printers in the import processing?
Or I do somthing wrong before importing the file? Anyone has met this problem before?
Thank you in advance.

Administrator cannot change printer properties on "Advanced" tab from "Devices and Printers" on Windows Server 2012 R2
Hello, dear Colleagues.
User with administrators rights cannot change printer properties on "Advanced" tab from "Devices and Printers" on Windows Server 2012 R2.
If to launch "Devices and Printers" on server, all printer properties on "Advanced" tab are inactive (see screen below).
But I can change it manually with "Print Management". Features become active.
The main purpose - to uncheck "Enable advanced printing features" with powershell scripts.
$erroractionpreference = "continue" $colPrinters = Get-Wmiobject -Class win32_printer -computername print_server -Filter "Name like 'printer1' or Name like 'printer2' or Name like 'printer3' or Name like 'printer4' or Name like 'printer5' or Name like 'printer6'" # get printers on server and filter with names ForEach ($objPrinter in $colPrinters) { # get printer details from WMI If ($objPrinter.RawOnly -ne "True") { # check that Advanced printing fetaures is turned on Write-host $objPrinter.Name Write-Host $objPrinter.RawOnly $objPrinter.RawOnly = "True" # Untick and update the object in WMI $objPrinter.Put() } }
It works on Windows 7 workstation, but does not on print server Windows Server 2012 R2 with error
Exception calling "Put" with "0" argument(s): "Generic failure " At \\print_server\c$\DisableAdvancedPrintingFeatures.ps1:8 char:17+ $objPrinter.Put()+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : DotNetMethodException
Can you help me with that? Look like somethings with rights.
Thank you.

2012R2 Fax Server Manager Stopped Working and Fax Security Groups have disappeared
Greetings. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
I have a customer running 2012R2 Standard in a VM. This was installed in January. The Fax Role was added and configured. An account was created in Windows Fax & Scan on each user's PCs to connect to the Fax server. Life was good.
About two weeks ago, the users could no longer send or receive faxes. Initially, I was looking for hardware issues and then realized that I could still send/receive from the server itself. So, that told me the fax modem was OK. I tried removing the Fax Role and re-adding it. Still didn't work. I did notice that the Fax Service Manager wasn't looking quite right. The entire "Fax (Local)" tree was missing with the exception of the "Device" section (which is normally located under "Devices and Providers").
I did notice that the standard security groups that I would expect to see when the fax role is installed were not present (e.g. Fax Users, Fax Operators, Routing Assistants).
I have since removed the Fax Role from this server and add the Fax Role onto a different server (also a 2012R2 VM). Now, the Fax Service Manager looks like I would expect with the "Fax (local)" at the top of the tree. I moved the same fax modem to this server and again, I can send and receive faxes fine from the server. I thought perhaps my problems were over. I went to a user PC and tried to add a Fax Account into Windows Fax & Scan, but I get permission errors.
I manually added the user into the Accounts section of the Fax Service Manager. Still not working. I then remembered that the security groups (Fax Users, Fax Operators, Etc.) were still missing from AD. I tried adding those manually and adding the user into the groups once I created them. Still not working.
Any thoughts?

HP Deskjet 710C
Since I have a new computer I can't get my old printer working.
First of all, my computer didn't have an LPT1-port, so I bought a small adapter to USB.
My computer sees the printer, so that seeems to work fine.
However, it won't print. I already restarted the print spool.
I removed the printer from the main page because windows called the printer I installed "copy 1", then reinstalled.
Updated the drivers.
All these thing don't work.
What will? Can you help me?
