on 64-bit 2k8 server, trying to add x86 drivers asks for ntprint.inf

I've read the relevant threads, and no one seems to be having my exact problem.

The server is a 64-bit 2008 server with the print role installed.  I can add x64 drivers fine, but when trying to add x86 drivers, I get stuck.  I have tried several HP printers:  LJ2300, 4100, 2420.

Here's the procedure:

Under the Drivers area of Print Management, right click, Add Driver.

Click Next.

Select only x86 architecture.

Choose Have Disk.

Browse to the location of the extracted x86 driver for the printer.

Select printer from list (in this case LJ2420)

Click Next.

Windows prompts with the following:

Install Components from Windows Media

Please provide path to Windows media (x86 processor).

Type the path where the file is located and click OK.

It appears to be looking for ntprint.inf.  I have tried several OS installation CDs - Server 2003, XP, Vista.  None of them are accepted.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

2008R2 Print server

When I update a printer driver for a single printer on a Windows 2008R2 Print Server results in all the printers broadcasting a driver update (even though there is no update for 'their' printer).

I would think that only the printer queue that had the driver updated would broadcast that an update is available, not every printer on the server.

Is there a setting that controls this?

Thanks

Network printer keeps randomly losing Duplex print setting

$

I recently installed a new print server that is running on Windows Server 2012.  I have it hosting 3 LaserJet 2015dn printers.  I have the Installable Duplex Printing option set to "Installed".  However, the printers will periodically lose this setting and it reverts back to "Not Installed."  It doesn't happen to them all at once.  Sometimes it's just one or two of them.  I then have to go back and change the option back to "Installed."  I can't figure out what could be causing this.

I use to have another Windows server 2012 machine set up as the print server and I never had this issue before.

Server 2008 Fax Server console doesn't show outgoing faxes

We are sending faxes from Windows XP clients through our Server 2008 Fax Server. Most of the faxes are sent, however the Server Fax Console never shows any faxes as being sent. The Fax Console does show the Incoming faxes that have been received. What can I do to get a log of the outbound faxes so we know they were sent successfully?
Thanks.

Printer Queue Settings Mysteriously Reverting Back to Default Settings on 2008 R2 print servers

We have 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 print servers, all of which has the same printer queues installed on them that are utilized by a 3rd party printing program that does a round-robin load balancing scheme.

All printers are a combination of HP and Xerox all running some variation of the HP UPD and the Xerox UPD.  Some use the PCL 5 and some use the PCL 6 version determined by age of printer and need.

There are typically two printer queues for each physical printer.

Example:

LOCATION_ROOM

LOCATION_ROOM_TRAY2

The regular queue is ok being left with default setting,

The _TRAY2 queues are set to print to "labels" or "pre-printed" paper type or a specific tray.

From time to time, these _TRAY2 queues will revert back to a factory default state and lose the setting to print to a specific paper type or tray.  Sometimes it happens to the _TRAY2 queue on all 4 servers, sometimes just 1 server, etc.  No rhyme or reason.

Disabled Bi-directional options on both the HP and Xerox UPDs per another article on the internet that said bi-directional could cause the printer to send back settings to the driver and cause this issue.  Even with this option off, we continue to see printer _TRAY2 queue settings revert back to factory default and lose their specific paper and tray settings.  We have ruled out the possibility that users or other technicians are the ones making these changes so we suspect it is some interaction between the servers, printer drivers and printers themselves causing the issue.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 2008 R2 Fax Server (Ongoing issue)

I have a Windows 2008 R2 active directory, fax services work inbound through USB modem - have 50 Windows 7 clients connecting to the fax server and outbound faxing works.  Here's the issue:  After a few days, the clients start getting server disconnected on the fax clients.  When I go to the Server, I restart the fax services, even though no event viewer shows any error's.  I do see inbound fax errors of some not received, but these are not consistent when this happens.

I restart the fax services (by restarting print spooler service), and clients still show disconnected.  If I remove the account from the Windows 7 Fax client and try to add it back - I get the "You do not have security permissions to complete this operation. Contact your fax administrator for more information".

Now, I reboot the windows 2008 R2 server and fax services work again inbound and outbound, and I can reconnect the Windows 7 Fax client that I previously removed.  UAC is turned off, Domain Admins full control to Fax server permission, and domain users have fax permissions.

This issue has happened over the last 3 weeks, I've uninstalled Fax roles, and reinstalled many times prior and followed the fax setup step by step on techarticles - like I stated, the fax services work then stop, and rebooting the server allows the faxing to work again.  This server does house Exchange 2010 SP3, but the only thing effected or having issues on this box is Fax services.  Any suggestions to look?

It appears as though the requested corrections to the documentation where never honored

Note After you apply the hotfix or update, you can show the printed document name in the event by enabling a specific Group Policy.

The policy name:

Cannot connect to printer hosted on a Win2012 Server with a Windows 7-64bit client (Error 0x00004005)

I have a Windows 2012 Server set up offering print services to our network, there are about 20 printers set up all deployed via group policy. Recently, on one of our Windows 7 machines I am finding that I an unable to connect to one of the printers shared on the print server while other clients seem to be able to connect to the same printer with no problem. Also, the printer used to work just fine from this same Windows 7 machine.

To test things further I logged onto the Win7 machine as the domain administrator, connected to the print server and double clicked on the printer to attempt to install it manually (rather than letting Group Policy do it). When I do so I receive the following message, "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x00004005.

I have done some searching but the only references I am finding to this particular error message involved users attempting to connect to a printer hosted on a 32-bit version of Windows from a 64-bit client. However, in my case both the server and client are 64-bit.

Can any one help me troubleshoot this 0x00004005 error?

Thank you.

Message when trying to add account: you do not have security permissions to complete this operation. Contact your administrator for more information.

I had a working fax server in a production environment that had been working for years.  On Tuesday users were unable to send faxes.  Faxes still were being received and placed in a folder.

When looking at the Fax Account it showed Disconnected.  After removing that and trying to reconnect, I got a message saying that I did not have security permissions.

I tried it from the fax server itself.  It works.  I tried it from the workstation using a Domain Admin account that we use and it works.  I temporarily made the user a domain admin logged out and logged back in.  Still cannot connect to fax server.

Other things that I have done.
uninstalled/reinstalled modem on server
Removed Fax Server Role and re-added
Took ownership of Fax in the Advanced Security section by domain users
Removed fax on server from workstation and re-added successfully
Re-added permissions in the fax manager for domain users, network service, everyone
Disabled Windows Firewall on server
Disabled Antivirus on server

Issues making restricted Printers available via the IIS Web page in Windows 2008 R2

$

I've gone through the standard procedure of restricting access to printers by doing the following:

  1. Remove the Everyone group from Access list on the Security Tab (which removes Print and Read Permissions)
  2. Add my restricted AD group PRINT-RESTRICT to the Access List (which adds Print and Read Permissions)

However, once I've removed the Everyone group, those printers are no longer listed on the IIS webpage,http://servername/printers

Users in the restricted group can actually add the printers and use them successfully by going to the Add Printer wizard on their PC, and searching for printers to add in the directory, however I really want one set of instructions for all people to add and manage their printers, (and the web page is the simplest method)

I've tried adding the Everyone group back in with Read Permissions and not Print, however this doesn't fix things. I've also tried adding the PRINT-RESTRICT group into the Print Server object, but no change their either.

Can anyone help with the permission that controls visibility of the Printer in the IIS web page for Windows 2008 R2 ?

thanks in advance,

Slow printing "generic / Text" on windows 2008r2

Hello,

we are using Zebra LP2824 printers with generic text printer driver on windows 2008R2 SP1 server.

When we sent a print job with some labels, the printer is printing label, seconds pause, next label, seconds pause and so on.

when we use a windows 2003 print server there is no pause.

same settings on both servers (spooler settings, advanced printing feature).

We have tried different options like send directly to printer, but this does not help.

Maybe somebody has an idea?

Event id related to the removal of the file and print sharing for networks

Hi ,

Recently print team has migrated the print server from the physical old server A to the VM server A-new .After the migration ,  the server A-new is retained with the name server A shutting down the old server .

But the clients are reporting that they are not be able to print because we found that due to this print team migrated the old print server to the new print server with the duplicated entries which reflected in AD. This our server team came to know once the complaint raised  by the site person to us saying that their printers are not working at all.

While checking the issue only then we found that the duplicated entries are found in the AD for the printer objects published in the AD.Print team has done the improper migration and left to server team saying that it is our responsibility to solve the issues.

And I suspect that somebody has  removed the file and print for networks in the network portion of the windows. We came to know only when we try to take any share either file share or print from the particular server to file server.

After enabling that option in the network portion , everything got resolved as the duplicate entries removed from the AD and published one instance of the printers.

I need to find the event in which this action has been triggered to remove that component and from that to identify who has done that..

Any help is greatly appreciated

My problem is very close to this one. I've installed updates KB2701894 & KB2748246 on client but it didn't help.

Server:
Windows 2012 R2 + current windows updates.
Xerox GPD PS (PCL, PCL6) 5.377.6.0

Clients:
Windows 7 x64 SP1 + current windows updates
Windows 7 x86 SP1 + current windows updates
GPO with Point and Print restrictions enabled.
Printers applies to users by Group Policy Preferences

Problem:

Xerox printers do not connect to clients. Every connection ends with event log errors.

HP UPD have not logged this error.

Details:

Event ID 601

The print spooler failed to download and import the printer driver from \\PRN-01 into the driver store for driver Xerox Global Print Driver PCL. Error code= 800f024b.

Event ID 600

The print spooler failed to import the printer driver that was downloaded from \\PRN-01\print$\W32X86\PCC\ntprint.inf_x86_59246c3ac1bd3f2a.cab into the driver store for driver Xerox Global Print Driver PCL. Error code= 800f024b. This can occur if there is a problem with the driver or the digital signature of the driver.

Can't print from a Terminal Server with Data Type NT EMF 1.008

Dear,

I'vebeen trying to look fora solution for hours but still not succeeded so I hope somebody can help me out. We need to print through RDP(Terminal Server).

Terminal server have Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise installed on x64.

When I print a document on the Terminal Server I see the document appears in the queue and directly dissapears. When I change the Print Processor Default data type to "NT EFM 1.008" the users can't print anymore. We can print from Default data type RAW without problems. From WinEventLog://Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin i can see the Spooler Operation is failed. Error message:

The document Naamloos - Kladblok, owned by ***, failed to print on printer ***. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler. Data type: NT EFF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 5181. Number of bytes printed 32. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: ***-TERMINALSERVER. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 259. No more data is available.
I've tried to clear the cache (C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS) but no success. Also I've tried to remove the printer completely and reinstalled on the Print Server but also no success.

Also when I disable "Enable advanced printing features" the default data type is default RAW, also when I change this to NT EMF 1.008 and apply this it's going back to RAW(very frustrated because you have the option to select NT EMF 1.008)
When I enable "Enable advanced printing features" I can change the default data type to NT EMF 1.008 but then I get the error from above on the printservers Event Viewer.

Is there somebody who can help me?

GPO Applies but Printer Fails to Deploy

Hello,

I'm experiencing some difficulty getting a printer to deploy by GPO.

The print server is running on a Windows 2012 R2 Server. The printer is aCanon iR-ADV C2230.

I started by installing the latest UFR II Windows 7 (x64) drivers that were available from the Canon support site. I installed the drivers, and created and shared the printer using Print Management.

If I browse to the printer share, and connect to it manually on a Windows 7 Pro client then I am able to successfully connect and print.

I have a User Configuration GPO configured that is supposed to install the shared printer, and the following Printer options are disabled.

- Only use Package Point and Print

- Package Point and Print - Approved servers

- Point and Print Restrictions

I can see that the GPO has applied, when I run GPResult, but the printer does not install.

All users have administrator privileges on the client machines.

I now do not know how to proceed. Can anyone help?
